All first appointments involve taking a case history to understand your presenting issue. This enables me to get a good insight into your problem and assess and treat you safely and effectively. Every follow-up appointment will involve evaluation of your progress through your feedback and what is observed objectively.
Occasionally, treatment may not be suitable or additional tests may be required to ensure the best and safest treatment option is applied to you. In this case, you will be referred to your GP or appropriate health professional.
What to bring to your appointment
If you have any test results or reports from investigations, for example, a colonoscopy or endoscopy, scans or blood tests, please bring these with you to your appointment.
Number of Treatments
Many people ask how may many treatments are needed to see results. There is no definitive answer to this. Some people respond quickly to treatment and only need a few, while others may take months or need regular maintenance appointments. Scheduling regular appointments, in the beginning helps. I often advise coming weekly for the first 3 to 4 treatments. I also prescribe self-care programmes for you to do at home.
Some people find that once things are under control they may occasionally need to come for a maintenance treatment from time to time. Things that may affect healing time may be how long you have had the issue, lifestyle factors like stress, sleep, diet and exercise, your age, your overall health, any other health conditions you have and sometimes your general well-being.
Important Considerations
Treatments will involve assessment of the abdomen for gut presentation and the TMJ for jaw issues. Other areas of the body that are believed to be contributing to your problem may also be assessed. This may involve dressing down to your underclothes. It is understood this isn’t always a comfortable process and you can be assured that your modesty will always be preserved. Shorts, leggings, and singlet tops are available to wear at the clinic and you are welcome to bring your own. If you feel uncomfortable at any time during treatment, please let me know.
Some discomfort may be experienced during assessment and treatments, but the aim is to keep this to a minimum. Your feedback is important during treatment.
Less often, you may experience some soreness or exacerbation of symptoms within the days following treatment (this is called a ‘treatment reaction’).
Visceral pain, especially, can be complex, and each person's response will be different. Pain may sometimes present when it is least expected. If you have any concerns please contact me.
If you are feeling unwell before your appointment it is always best to reschedule your appointment and see your GP instead.
It is also advised that if you have ongoing issues that are not resolving you should see your GP so they may perform any investigations and if necessary refer you to a specialist.
Please note that you are always welcome to bring a friend or relative with you to your appointments.
Please be assured that your confidentiality is of the highest priority.
Cancellation Policy: It is kindly asked that you please give 24 hours' notice when cancelling an appointment so the session may be offered to someone else. Cancellation within less than 24 hours' may incur the full fee.
